Sign theft is a crime
You can tell by the signs posted throughout the county that an election is coming up. What you don't see are signs that are no longer posted.
For whatever reason, there are always people who – for some reason or another – think it's OK to steal or destroy candidates' signs.
It's not – it's a criminal offense.
Candidates and their supporters put a lot of money into their campaigns, which includes signs that are posted to advertise their run for elected office.
Stealing or damaging the signs, whether it's done as a prank or an attempt to hurt those campaigns, is criminal activity, either theft or criminal damage to property.
We hope this serves as a reminder to those consider committing those criminal offenses.
