Few days left for local survey

If you have responded to the local survey on the continuation of recycling services in Vandalia, you only have a few days left to do so.
The survey takes just a few minutes, if that, and lets city officials know whether city water customers are willing to have a monthly surcharge of $1.25 added to their water bills.
That surcharge will help to fund the recycling programs currently offered by FAYCO Enterprises and the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District.
Without that surcharge, the recycling programs could be shut down. Then, the items that we recycle now at the FAYCO facility on Wagner Street would go into our regular trash and help fill landfills, and electronic items, such as televisions and computers, would have to be taken as far as Champaign for legal disposal.
Are you willing to give up those services, or do you wish to continue to have them available? That's something that Vandalia aldermen need to know before they cast votes on the issue.
The survey is available online by using links at www.leaderunion.com and http://www.vandaliaradio.com. If you don't have a computer, you can vote online by visiting Evans Public Library. If you don't use a computer, hard copies of the survey are available at city hall, The Leader-Union, WKRV and Evans Library.
We encourage all city water customers to be a part of the process in a decision being reached.
