Support programs that support us
With economic times being what they are, many worthwhile programs in the community are looking for support from community residents. Opportunities to provide such support abound within the next week.
For example, the Vandalia Swimming Pool staff is continuing to raise money for the needed renovation of the local pool. Without those renovations, the park district will be required to shut down the pool. The staff’s latest fundraising effort is a haunted house in the former Washington School, on Friday and Saturday nights, and after the Lions Club Halloween parade next Thursday.
Another organization asking for community support is Fayette County Extension, which provides many youth in our county programs that help them learn numerous life skills. The skills they acquire through Extension’s 4-H many use to become productive and successful adults. Residents can support Extension and 4-H by attending a luncheon on Sunday at the Brownstown Elementary School.
Also serving a specific segment of our population is FAYCO, a sheltered workshop that enhances the quality of life for area residents who otherwise would lead restrictive lives. FAYCO, which has taken over and largely expanded our area’s recycling program, is holding a book fair this Saturday at the Moose Lodge.
These are just a few of the worthy programs offered to our community, ones that are worthy of our support.
