Get involved; run for office

Municipalities and school districts throughout our area – and the state – are facing tough times financially, with much of it due to our state’s financial troubles. We depend on the individuals who live among us to represent us and get us through those tough times.
Next April, we will be electing individuals to our municipal and school board positions. Hopefully, there will be many of you out there who will consider serving your communities through those positions.
Our local entities will, indeed, be facing some difficult challenges in the near future, and likely beyond that. The local people who step forward to face those challenges are special individuals, because they realize that our communities survive and grow only through the efforts of those who are willing to serve.
It’s not an easy job, sifting through reports, budgets  and other documents, but it is one that can be very rewarding.
We have many people in our communities who are always quick to challenge the decisions of our city councils, village boards and school boards. Second-guessing those decisions is an easy task.
But actually getting involved in the process is another matter. Fortunately, we have those individuals who are up to the challenge.
We’re hoping that there are those who are willing to become part of the process. The first step in doing so is taking out nominating petitions for municipal or school board seats.
