Despite heat, good turnout for Rotary blood drive
The Vandalia Rotary/Red Cross July 18 blood drive at the Vandalia Moose Lodge resulted in 87 good pints of blood, a great showing for a hot July day.
It Takes a Lot of Volunteers
Each blood drive requires the help of many volunteers, in addition to the preliminary work of the Rotarians.
The Moose Lodge donates its facility and helps set up the room, and the Vandalia Woman’s Club provides members to welcome and register each presenting donor.
The American Legion Auxiliary serves refreshments after people have donated blood, and community supporters donate items for drawings.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help at the six blood drives each year can call Rotarian Howard White at 283-2848.
Max Durbin and Glori Campbell, both of Vandalia, were the winners of drawings for a set of four Cardinals tickets donated by Joe Thierry of South Central FS Tire.

Jackson Hall of Vandalia donates blood at the American Red Cross blood drive held by the Vandalia Rotary Club last Tuesday. Assisting him is Red Cross technician Suleman Shah of Effingham.

American Legion Auxiliary volunteers served refreshments and handed out Cardinals T-shirts to donors at last week’s blood drive. From left to right are Mary White, Sue Shadwell, Connie Eakin, Betty Greer and Terri Braun.
