Report: Patton will get called up

South Central High School graduate Spencer Patton will soon be called up the Texas Rangers, according to a report in Monday’s edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

According to the report, Patton is the only Rangers prospect that General Manager Jon Daniels would confirm will get a September call-up when MLB rosters expand to 40 players.

Patton, who was acquired by the Rangers in a July 16 trade with the Kansas City Royals, is 1-1 with a 0.69 earned-run average and is 3-of-3 in save opportunities for the Triple-A Round Rock Express of the Pacific Coast League.

He has struck out 20 batters in 13 innings and has walked just three since the trade.

In his most recent appearance, Patton struck out J.B. Shuck to end the seventh inning for a save – his 17th overall this season – in a 4-1 win at Salt Lake in the second game of a doubleheader. Patton allowed one hit in one inning of work.

The final game of the season for Round Rock is next Monday.

Patton was a 2006 graduate of SCHS, and pitched collegiately at Parkland College and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

He was a 24th-round selection of the Royals in the 2011 first-year player draft, and steadily climbed the ladder in the minor leagues, getting his first shot at Triple-A last year during the postseason.
