On the same day he will pitch for the Pacific Coast League in the Triple-A All-Star Game, South Central High School graduate Spencer Patton was traded to the Texas Rangers organization.
Patton was traded by the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday in a deal in which they acquired veteran reliever Jason Frasor. Patton was assigned to the Triple-A Round Rock Express.
Patton was a 24th-round selection of the Royals in 2011, and he steadily advanced throughout their minor league system.
This season, Patton is 4-3, with a 4.08 earned-run average and 14 saves for the Omaha Storm Chasers. He has struck out 60 batters in 46 1/3 innings over 34 appearances.
Frasor has a 3.34 ERA and averages better than a strikeout an inning. At 36, he brings a veteran relief presense to the Royals, who have struggled to find solid production in middle relief this season.
The Royals are 48-46 on the season, while the injury-riddled Rangers are 38-57.
