The St. Elmo High School class of 1954 met for lunch at Good Old Days Banquet Hall on Saturday, May 24, for its 60-year class reunion.
Eighteen members and guests of the 43 graduates and four who had been member of the class at sometime attended the reunion.
Rita (Niemeyer) Dial and Kenneth Gillespie organized the reunion.
Don Fairchild gave the invocation and read a prayer from the Rev. Erhard and Mary Ellen (Yagow) Wolf, who could not attend.
Fifteen deceased members of the class were remembered by reading their names, and a “toast to absent friends” was given by Gillespie.
Trivia questions about their school memories were read by Rita Dial and answered by the group.
Each classmate received a memory book with most classmates’ descriptions of the 60 years since their graduation. The book was assembled by Gillespie.
Classmates also received a book prepared by Richard Freeman that gives more of his family history.
Marcia Heckert explained how the St. Elmo Educational Foundation was established and how scholarships are awarded. The class made a donation of $650 to the foundation.
Jim Stolte volunteered to help organize the 65-year reunion in five years.
Sixteen members of the class attended the St. Elmo Alumni Banquet that evening.

Stolte of Vandalia; Mary E. (Cummins) Swarms and daughter Gayla Krause of Decatur; and Mr. and Mrs. Galen Underwood of Warrensburg.
