Vandalia Jr. Legion squad gets pair of weekend victories

Vandalia’s Jr. Legion squad picked up a pair of wins over this past weekend, splitting two doubleheaders.

Post 95 fought through the rain to pick up a 6-5 win against Dieterich last Saturday, but dropped the second game, 11-1.

Vandalia then played a doubleheader at Jerseyville on Sunday, falling to Quincy, 11-0, in game one, but beating Jerseyville, 4-1, in game two.

Post 95 travels to Teutopolis on Thursday and Carlyle on Friday before hosting Centralia next Tuesday. All dates are 6 p.m. doubleheaders.

Two games scheduled against Effingham on Tuesday were canceled and rescheduled for July 11.

Ryne Dangbar had three RBI and struck out six in five innings, and Zach Schaal held Dieterich scoreless over the final two innings of last Saturday’s 6-5 victory.

Post 95 had the early lead in the game, but allowed Dieterich to get ahead in the middle innings before rains began to fall.

Noah Murray, Michael Sloan and Austin Hoehn also drove home a run, and Hoehn scored twice.

Schaal struck out two in the final two innings for the win. He allowed two hits and walked a pair.

Only one of the five runs Dangbar allowed was earned.

In game two, Dangbar had an RBI single to bring home Murray, but Vandalia had just three other hits in the 11-1 loss.

Dieterich scored nine times in the first two innings.

Michael Sloan and Zach Schaal were the only hitters for Post 95 to get a hit in Sunday’s 11-0 loss to Quincy at Jerseyville.

Vandalia did also drew four walks, but weren’t able to get a run across.

Schaal took the loss, striking out five over five innings.

Sloan had a two-run single to lead the offense and back a complete game by Matt Rademacher in game two, a 4-1 win at Jerseyville.

Ryne Dangbar and Schaal also drove home a run for Post 95. Dangbar scored twice, and Noah Murray and Austin Hoehn scored.

Rademacher was sharp for seven innings, striking out two, while scattering just six hits and walking two. He allowed one unearned run.
