Jr. Legion squad no-hit in season-opening loss

VANDALIA – Post 95 was no-hit by Carlyle’s Collin Szczeblewski in its season-opening Jr. Legion game last Friday, and a 10-run fifth inning for Post 404 propelled Carlyle to an easy win.

Eight errors by Vandalia spoiled a solid start, which saw only one Carlyle batter reach base in the first two innings of a 14-0 loss.

Jake Stewart, Cole Horner and Austin Hoehn were hit by pitches in the first three innings, and Hoehn also drew a walk.

Vandalia (0-1), however, never hit a ball out of the infield and struck out six times in the loss.

Starter Matt Rademacher allowed four runs (none earned) in four innings. He struck out one, while allowing three hits and two walks.
