Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Spencer Patton • Pitcher • Omaha Storm Chasers

•May 13 – Patton, a South Central graduate, pitched an inning of relief during a 5-0 win against New Orleans. The Kansas City Royals Triple-A prospect struck out two and allowed one hit.
•May 9 – Patton earned his sixth save of the season by pitching the final two innings of an 11-8 win at Round Rock. He struck out two and walked one.
•May 7 – Patton earned a save by pitching the final two-thirds of an inning in a 6-3 win at Round Rock. He allowed one hit.

Trevor Montgomery • Soph. • Greenville • Baseball

•Montgomery, a Vandalia graduate, was named the first-team All-SLIAC catcher after a strong debut season at Greenville College.
•May 10 – Montgomery went 3-for-4, with a run, in a 12-4 loss to Webster in the final game of the SLIAC Tournament.
•May 9 – Montgomery went 2-for-5, with a double, RBI and run, in a 6-1 win against Spalding in the SLIAC Tournament.
•May 8 – Montgomery went 3-for-5, with a double, two RBI and three runs, in a 14-9 win against Spalding in the SLIAC Tournament.

Dathan Berning • Soph. • Greenville • Baseball

•May 9 – Berning, a Vandalia graduate, went 2-for-4, with an RBI and a run, in a 6-1 win against Spalding in the SLIAC Tournament.
•May 8 – Berning went 2-for-6, with a double, two RBI and a run, in a 14-9 win against Spalding in the SLIAC Tournament.

Blake Swofford • Freshman • Rend Lake • Golf

•Swofford, a Vandalia graduate, recently finished in a tie for 11th at the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XXIV Championships. He shot a three-round total of 233 (80-76-77) to help Rend Lake place third.
