Boys regional play starts Monday
Regional play begins for area boys basketball teams next week, and one area team has earned a No. 1 seed.
Patoka is the team to beat at the Class 1A Mulberry Grove Regional, and the Warriors collectively are 9-2 against teams in that regional this season.
The Warriors open play next Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Monday’s contest between No. 4 Sandoval and No. 5 Mulberry Grove. Patoka is 3-0 against MGHS and 2-0 vs. SHS.
Vandalia has the next-highest seed, with the No. 3 spot in the Class 2A Wood River Regional. The Vandals open play next Wednesday at 7 p.m. against No. 2 Roxana.
St. Elmo/Brownstown holds the No. 4 seed in the toughest regional an area team faces.
The Eagles are in the Nokomis Regional, with features the like of Altamont, St. Anthony and Nokomis, all teams with winning records that have beaten SEB this season.
Play opens on Monday against No. 5 Beecher City at 7 p.m.
Ramsey is the No. 6 seed in that regional, and its first game is next Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Nokomis.
The winners of the Nokomis and Mulberry Grove regionals meet in the first round of sectional play at Red Hill High School in Bridgeport.
