Godoyo gets all-tourney nod at Bulldog Invite

After racking up 31 kills and seven aces in five games, Vandalia senior Megan Godoyo was named to the all-tournament team at the Highland Bulldog Invitational this past weekend.

Godoyo, who leads the Lady Vandals with 156 kills and has averaged 6.57 per match over the past seven games, was the brightest spot for Class 2A Vandalia, which faced some stiff competition in going 1-4 at the event.

Losses came to three teams in Class 3A and one team in Class 4A, while the win came against Class 2A Wesclin.

The Lady Vandals opened play last Friday night, with a 22-25, 14-25 loss to Class 4A O’Fallon, and that was followed by a 25-10, 26-27, 6-15 loss to Class 3A Carbondale.

During the second game, junior Kadi Metzger matched her season-high, with seven kills, and junior Johanna Walton surpassed 100 kills for the season.

On Saturday, Vandalia got a 25-16, 25-22 win against Wesclin to open the day, but then suffered losses to Highland (19-25, 21-25) and eventual tournament champion Breese Central (8-25, 13-25).

Against Highland, junior Jessica Sullens set her 400th kill of the season, and Metzger tied her season-high, with five service aces, and against Wesclin, sophomore Makayla Tinker had a career-high six kills.

After the tournament, Vandalia’s record was 14-10.
