Lady Cougars finish sixth at Vandalia
VANDALIA – South Central started the day with an exciting match against the Lady Vandals during the 20th annual Vandalia Tournament, but would only muster one win on the day to finish sixth.
The Lady Cougars (5-8) got their lone win on Saturday in third game, beating East Alton-Wood River, 25-12, 25-18.
Otherwise, South Central fell to Vandalia, 26-24, 24-26, 11-15; Lebanon, 13-25, 17-15; and Staunton, 19-25, 18-25, in the eight-team event.
Senior Lincoln Brasel – who has 11 kills against Vandalia – finished the tournament with 21 and also served up a pair of aces.
Junior Maria Brasel was also a strong hitter, recording 19 kills, while adding 40 assists.
Sophomore Deidra Schaal also added two aces and 19 assists, freshman Emily Chapman had eight kills and eight assists and sophomore Abbey Garrett had 12 kills and three blocks.
