Lady Vandals take third at Highland

The Vandalia tennis team placed third at Saturday’s Highland Doubles Tournament, with three pairs of players finishing with 2-2 records.

Sophomore Hannah Blythe and senior Karlee Brimberry took half of their matches in the No. 1 flight, junior

Courtney Ulmer and senior Megan Dothager took two wins in the No. 2 flight and freshman Rebekah Sanders and senior Kendall Leander were 2-2 in the No. 5 flight.

In the No. 3 flight, freshman Emma Meyer and junior Nicole Wells were unable to come away with a win, and in the No. 4 flight, freshmen Gabby and Kierstyn Dossett were unable to win in their first-ever varsity matches.

It marked the second straight year with a top-three finish in the event, after the Lady Vandals placed second last season.

Last Thursday, the Lady Vandals lost a close match to Hillsboro, 5-4.

The teams split in singles, with No. 1 Hannah Blythe, No. 4 Megan Dothager and No. 6 Emma Meyer winning. It was Meyer’s first career varsity singles win.

In doubles, Blythe and senior Karlee Brimberry teamed up to win the No. 1 flight, but Hillsboro would take the No. 2 and No. 3 flights to earn the team victory.
