South Central graduate Patton earns spot at Class AAA for playoff run
South Central High School graduate Spencer Patton has earned another promotion in the Kansas City Royals minor league system.
Patton, who began the season in Class A, has joined the Class AAA Omaha Storm Chasers of the Pacific Coast League for their playoff run.
Omaha finished the season at 70-74, but earned the American Conference North Division championships to earn its third straight division title.
The Storm Chasers then swept Oklahoma City in the first round of the playoffs, with Patton tossing 2 1/3 innings last Friday during the series-clinching 7-6 victory.
Patton struck out three batters while shutting out the Redhawks, despite allowing three hits and two walks. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fifth inning.
With the win, Omaha reached the PCL championship series for the third straight season, but on Tuesday, the first game of the series against Salt Lake was suspended due to rain.
Patton has had an outstanding season, striking out 103 batters through 82 1/3 innings of work in Class A and Class AA. His season earned-run average is 1.86, as he has allowed 17 earned runs on 58 hits and 26 walks.
He last allowed a run on Aug. 18.
