Rams fall in opening game of tournament

RAMSEY – A game that had the beginning of a slugfest slowed down on Monday, as Ramsey was defeated by Odin, 6-3, in the opening game of the sixth annual Ramsey Tournament.

Tylor Knisley hit the second pitch of his season for a home run in the bottom of the first inning, but that was after Odin took advantage of several errors in the top of the frame to score three runs.

“That was nice,” said coach Tony Kreke of the home run. “I’d like to see some pop from him this year, because he has the capability to do it.

“Any way to score runs is great.”

That would be the only run for the Rams (0-1) until the fifth inning, while Odin added two more in the second and one more in the third.

Ramsey had runners on base in each of the second-fourth innings, but couldn’t find the big hit to score any runs, partly, Kreke said, because his players failed to adjust to the pitcher.

“That was guys Nos. 1-9,” he said. “We have to do a better job of taking the ball the other way, because today we didn’t do that.”

Dalton Mercer had an RBI single in the fifth, scoring Tristan Wesselman, and Waylon Davis scored on an error on the same play.

Wesselman was 2-for-3 in the game, while also drawing a walk in the first game of his final season.
