Lady Vandals sweep DH against alumni

VANDALIA – The Lady Vandals got their first win of the summer on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against the alumni.

Rising senior Megan Godoyo tossed a shutout in an 8-0 win in game one, and Kelsey Swain scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 6-5 win in game two.

A team of different alumni players had swept the Lady Vandals in a doubleheader one week prior.

Karlie Bright and Gracie Morrison both scored twice from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in Vandalia’s lineup in game one, which saw the Lady Vandals take a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

Three runs in each the fourth and fifth innings off of Maggie Childers broke open the game.

Godoyo had 11 strikeouts for the high school squad.

In game two, the Lady Vandals led going to the top of the sixth inning, but with two outs, a passed ball  allowed the tying run to score before Swain crossed the plate in the bottom of the frame.

Last Thursday, Vandalia was swept in a doubleheader against East Alton-Wood River, falling, 19-9, and 9-3.

Alex Henna takes a swing for the alumni during Tuesday’s doubleheader. The current high schoolers would win both games.
