Fayette County Farm Bureau presents two $1,000 scholarships for ag students
The Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation has awarded scholarships to two local students who are planning careers in agriculture.
Samantha Austin, daughter of Bruce and Terri Austin of St. Elmo, and Patrick Schaal, son of Brian and Michelle Schaal of Farina, were the recipients of the Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation’s general scholarships. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000.
“Since 1996, Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation has awarded college scholarships to members or their dependents desiring to further their education," said Ken Cripe, president of the foundation's board.
"The importance of education today is immeasurable, and Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation and the board of directors are very happy to be able to continue the scholarship program for our members.”
The Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation was started in 1993, and gave its first scholarships in the spring of 1994. That year, scholarships were given to three students who were going to college for an agricultural-related degree. Since that first year, the foundation has awarded 70 scholarships, for a total of $56,000. The foundation's mission is to award scholarships to provide for agriculture-related studies has not changed.
The Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation awards scholarships annually to area college-bound students majoring in agriculture-related field of study. It also provides funding for the Summer Agricultural Institute, local FFA chapters, agriculture education for area teachers and the Fayette County Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom project.
