Lady Rams win own invitational on tie-breaker criteria
The Lady Rams went 2-1 to win their own invitational on Saturday.
Ramsey opened with a 5-2 win against Arthur-Lovington, and that proved to be the difference-maker, as the teams each finished the event at 2-1 and the game was used as the tie-breaker.
Senior Shaunna Rainey had two triples in the game and drove home two runs, and freshman Megan Kimberlin hit her first home run in the fourth inning.
Taylor Knisley, a senior, pitched seven strong innings to earn the win.
In the second game, Ramsey got an easy 11-1 win against Hillsboro, beating the Lady Hiltoppers in five innings.
Senior Bre Seaton reached base and scored three times, Rainey and Kimberlin had two RBI, and senior Whitney Moreland collected two hits and two RBI.
Peyton Banal, a senior, allowed just three hits in the complete-game effort to earn the win.
Stew-Stras beat Ramsey, 9-6, in the final game of the invitational.
The Lady Comets led 9-1 after the four innings, and the Lady Rams’ comeback try would come up just short.
Two runs scored on Rainey’s triple in the bottom of the fifth, and after there were two outs, Ramsey got four straight singles to bring home two more runs.
Senior Jenna Hunt drew a walk in the sixth, and she scored on a single from Banal.
Ramsey got two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t push a runner across the plate.
