Sophomore Stewart qualifies for state in AAU freshmen/sophomore tournament

Vandalia sophomore Jake Stewart has advanced to the state level in an AAU freshmen/sophomore wrestling tournament.

The 152-pounder placed third at the Granite City Sectional on Saturday to earn his spot in this weekend’s state event, which is being held in Springfield on Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomores Ryne Lipsey and Adam Palmer, and freshman Luke Tessman also participated in the event, which was not divided into classes like the Illinois High School Association state series.

Stewart went 28-20 for the Vandals on the season, placing third at the regional tournament.
