Vandalia seventh-graders reach regional title game

The Vandalia seventh-grade boys basketball team is headed to Thursday’s regional championship game.

Beating Staunton, 32-14, on Tuesday placed the Jr. Vandals in the title game, which will be played at Hillsboro Junior High on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Vandalia will meet Greenville, which won both regular-season matchups.

Nathan Casey paced the Jr. Vandals with nine points, and Marcus Zimmerman added seven.

James Taylor (6), Garrett McNary (5), Ethan Bayles (4) and Nic Wollerman (2) also scored for Vandalia (15-8).

The team won its first-round regional tournament game against East Alton-Wood River on Monday, with a 37-21 victory.

The Jr. Vandals (14-8) were led by Marcus Zimmerman, who has 17 points and six steals, and James Taylor, who had nine points.
