Team Mindy
The uplifting story of Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano’s road to recovery from acute promyelocytic leukemia was heard by millions of people throughout the country.
And for one Vandalia sophomore, it was a call to action.
After watching 24 Colts players and two of their cheerleaders shave their heads to begin the CHUCKSTRONG donation campaign, Jake Stewart was moved to start a similar campaign right here in town.
Last Wednesday, it became a reality.
Stewart was one of 30 individuals to shave his head in support of local resident Mindy Miller, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, as part of Team Mindy.
Among the participants were 17 members of the Jr. Wrestling Club and several fathers of those wrestlers. All individuals who shaved their head received a free Team Mindy T-shirt, and more shirts were available for purchase.
Miller has two sons who wrestle with the Jr. Club, and Stewart is one of the coaches for the program.
The effort raised more than $300 for Miller.
