St. Elmo to face Lebanon in finals of Class 1A sectional
It's been a goal all season for the St. Elmo volleyball team to advance as far as possible through the state postseason, and on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles notched another victory.
Behind 14 kills from senior Savannah Feezel, St. Elmo had little trouble defeating Woodlawn in the first round of the Class 1A sectional in Lebanon, winning the match, 25-14, 25-13.
With the victory, the Lady Eagles (28-9) advance to Thursday's sectional final against Lebanon. The game will be played at 7 p.m. at Lebanon High School.
The victor moves on to Saturday's super-sectional at Valmeyer High School on Saturday at 4 p.m. against either Valmeyer or Goreville.
Against Woodlawn, Feezel also added three service aces, while senior Perry Manley posted 22 assists.
Other leading attackers were senior Katie Stites, with five kills, and senior Megan Maxey and Heather Seibert, with three kills each.

St. Elmo won its first regional championship since 2010 last Thursday, beating Brownstown in what will go down as the last Lady Bombers game ever.
The Lady Eagles (27-9) used a balanced attack and consistent serving to get its large senior class its second regional championship.
Feezel paced the attack with seven kills, while Stites added six, and Maxey and Moore both had four.
From the service line, Maxey had three aces, while Seibert added two and Stites had one.
Manley had 17 assists.
Brownstown, which will co-op in volleyball at St. Elmo next season, ended its season at 12-19 with the loss, an improvement of three wins from last season.
Courtney Howard led the team with four kills, and Bethany Oberlink and Tara Johnson were each one behind.
Johnson also added three aces and five digs, and Katie Kroll led in assists with six. Michaela Walk added five assists, and Brittany Kistler had a team-high nine digs in her final game.

The St. Elmo volleyball team beat Brownstown for the regional championship last Thursday and then beat Woodlawn in the Lebanon Sectional on Tuesday.
