Hawkins returns to alma mater

Kyle Hawkins, a 2010 Vandalia graduate, returned to his alma mater to pitch during an exhibition doubleheader on Saturday.

Pitching for the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville’s club baseball team, Hawkins tossed three innings and allowed just his first earned run of the season during a 6-4 win against St. Louis University’s club team.

Hawkins struck out three and allowed four hits during the game, which was the second in the doubleheader. SIUE won the first game, 8-6.

So far this fall, Hawkins is 4-0 for SIUE in four starts. He has struck out 27 batters in 16 innings of work, allowing just three walks and nine hits.

As a team, the Cougars are 9-0 this fall and will play in two or three other tournaments before the month is over.
