Rhoades inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame
Nearly 19,000 adults volunteer annually to assist with local 4-H programs across the state. An elite group of those volunteers were honored Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Illinois State Fairgrounds by the Illinois 4-H Foundation.
Four local volunteers were inducted into the Illinois 4-H Foundation’s Hall of Fame, including Mary Ann Rhoades of Ramsey.
Rhoades thought she was finished with 4-H when she retired after 35 years as a leader of the Ramsey Senors & Senoritas 4-H Club, but the perfect opportunity was just waiting for her with the creation of a special interest 4-H Club in Ramsey geared around teaching children to cook. After a few sessions, she was hooked. “This is what 4-H is all about," she said.
Rhoades has given her time and talent to the Extension Council, Extension Foundation and leadership teams of the 4-H program.
She is a caring, thoughtful leader to all children in the Fayette County 4-H program, said Extension Youth Educator Judy Mae Bingman.
