Lady Eagles win EIC slugfest with Beecher City
The Lady Eagles won a wild one in Beecher City last Thursday.
St. Elmo scored seven runs in the top of the seventh, only to have Beecher City rally back in the bottom of the frame to tie the game 12.
But the Lady Eagles would add three runs in the eighth to come away with a 15-12 victory, their second Egyptian-Illini Conference win of the season.
"This game turned out to be kind of a wild one," said St. Elmo coach Tom Fedrigon. "It's hard to believe that after five innings, it was a 3-1 game on a solo home run by Savannah Feezel and a two-run single by Stephanie Calhoun."
Junior Megan Maxey homered in the top of the sixth inning to push St. Elmo ahead, 5-1, but Beecher City came back with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-5 lead before the Lady Eagles' big seventh inning.
The teams combined for 31 hits in the game, and of St. Elmo's 15 hits, four of them went for extra bases and four of them came of the bat of Dani Austin.
She had four singles, four runs and two RBI and also pitched 2/3 of an inning.
"This was a nice win in that we didn't let falling behind get in our heads," Fedrigon said. "We played hard from start to finish."
The game was also significant in the standings, as it ended a six-game losing streak.
