Brownstown 7th-grade girls make state; Vandalia 8th-graders eliminated
The Brownstown Junior High seventh-grade basketball team advanced to Saturday's state tournament, with a 28-17 win against Oblong at the sectional tournament on Wednesday.
Brownstown will play the Paris/Crestwood co-op on Saturday at 1 p.m. in LeRoy, and the tournament finals are on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Meanwhile, the Vandalia Junior High eighth-grade girls basketball team closed out a 20-2 season last night with a 38-23 loss to Central A&M in the regional championship game at Assumption.
The Jr. Lady Vandals struggled against the height of Central A&M toward the end of the game, and actually held a 15-15 tie after the first shot of the second half.
Over the past two seasons, the group had a combined record of 38-6. Both seasons, Central A&M ousted the Jr. Lady Vandals in the regional tournament.
