St. Elmo to play for EIC title; Lady Vandals earn big win against Pana
ST. ELMO — St. Elmo fended off a pesky Ramsey volleyball team on Thursday to advance to Friday night's Egpytian-Illini Conference Tournament championship game, where the Lady Eagles will face Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
That game will be at 8 p.m.
St. Elmo got around Ramsey in three sets, winning 20-25, 25-20, 15-14. The Lady Eagles trailed 14-11 during the final set, which would be won by the first team to 15 points.
CORL advanced to the finals after dispatching Beecher City on Thursday, 25-21, 25-16. The Lady Stallions defeated St. Elmo in the first game of the regular season.
In other action at the EIC Tournament, Brownstown defeated Mulberry Grove, 25-13, 25-16, and Cowden-Herrick beat Patoka, 25-18, 25-20.
On Friday, the schedule is as follows:
5 p.m. — Beecher City vs. Patoka
6 p.m. — Mulberry Grove vs. Ramsey
7 p.m. — Brownstown vs. Cowden-Herrick
8 p.m. — CORL vs. St. Elmo
Thursday also saw the Vandalia High School volleyball team earn a big win at Pana.
Playing the Lady Panthers for the third time this season, Vandalia earned a 25-14, 17-25, 25-23, victory.
Led by a season-high 21 kills from junior RaeChelle Leiken, the Lady Vandals defeated Pana for the second time this season, with the first having come at the Pana Tournament a few weeks ago.
The win will serve as a nice boost for Vandalia, which will begin play in a tough regional on Monday. The team plays Flora in Flora at 6:30 p.m.
Vandalia (23-6) has won its past seven games and 11 of its past 12.
