Mulberry Grove JH loses regional final
The Mulberry Grove Junior High softball team fell short in the regional championship game at Mt. Olive last Wednesday, losing to Nokomis, 7-2.
Three Mulberry Grove players – Peyton Randolph, April Stitch and Kayla Zimmerman –went 2-for-4 in the game with Randolph stroking two doubles and driving in both of the Aces’ runs in the third inning.
Nokomis already had a 6-0 lead by that time, adding their final run in the fifth.
Kylea Vohlken suffered the loss for Mulberry Grove. She finished the season with a 7-4 record.
The Aces advanced to the championship game after defeating Mt. Olive 7-6 in the semifinals.
Mulberry Grove opened that game up with a four-run fifth inning that featured four doubles. Randolph produced well for the Aces, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. Karissa Woody was also 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and three runs.
Stitch (4-1) notched the win for the Aces, pitching 2 1/3 relief innings, allowing just one hit. Woody pitched the final two innings of the game to record a save.
