Aces baseball continues to navigate tough schedule
By Mark Jurgena, Advocate Sports Staff
This has been a rough fall for baseball at Mulberry Grove High School.
The Aces are winless for the fall portion of their schedule.
A big part of that has been their schedule.
With games against last year’s Class 2A state champions (the class Greenville and Vandalia are in) Effingham (St. Anthony), Farina (South Central) the Class 1A state champs a couple of years back and last springs Class 1A state runner-up Altamont. The Aces have seen some of the top teams in the state for the spring season let alone the condensed fall season in which only smaller schools play.
Last week they added multiple Class 2A state champs Teutopolis to the list as well as rematching with South Central.
On Sept. 15 they hosted T-Town and fell to the Wooden Shoes 15-0 in five innings.
MG was able to get two hits off the Shoes. They came off the bats of Brant Thomas and Jackson Icenogle.
