By Mark Jurgena, Advocate Sports Staff

It’s been a bit of a rough start for the Greenville High School girls tennis team.

Last week they took on Highland on Sept. 10 and fell on the Greenville University tennis courts by an 8-1 count.

The Greenville number one doubles team of Eden Kapp and Maddie Hardin took a 6-2, 7-6 (3) win over the Bulldog duo of Jolie Mott and Emma Bandino.

Hardin had a close three-set singles match with Bandino falling 6-1, 4-6, 15-13.

Taylor Ferris won her exhibition matchup 6-4.

Highland doubles tourney

On Sept. 14, Greenville took part in the Highland Doubles tournament with the host school, Centralia, Hillsboro and Vandalia.

GHS was able to take two matches over the course of the morning event.

The number one doubles team of Kapp and Ava Lagermann beat their opponent from Hillsboro 8-5 while the number three GHS team of Ferris and Erin Drannan beat Vandalia’s number three team 8-2.

Upcoming Schedule

On Monday the girls traveled to Flora and yesterday they hosted the co-op team from Staunton-Bunker Hill, however, results from both of those matches were unavailable at press time.

Thursday they host a quadrangular meet with Granite City, Alton (Marquette) and Bethalto (Civic Memorial).

Monday they host Vandalia before traveling to Edwardsville to meet Metro East Lutheran at Airplane Park.
