GHS cross country gets season underway with solid times at Carlinville

New Greenville High School cross country coach and his charges had their opening meet of the season on Sept. 3 at the 3.08 mile course at Loveless Park in Carlinville.
“All around a great first outing for both teams, but all three girls ran at least a minute faster than they did at the same meet last year,” said GHS coach Logan Robart. “Caitlin McPeak had a lifetime PR by over 1.5 minutes!”
Boys race
On the boys side, the Comets finished in sixth place out of the ten schools who had enough runners to qualify for the team standings. GHS had 186 points to edge out Litchfield by one point.
Taylorville won the event with 32 points with Auburn second at 80.
Senior Michael Wilson was the fastest Comet on the day. His time of 16:57.95 gave him a sixth place finish at the event out of 104 runners.
The time also ranks him third on the all-time GHS cross country list.
Reid Rinella set the school record at 16:01.0 in 2012.
One year ago at the same meet Wilson ran a 17:39 when the Carlinville course was a shorter distance at 2.91 miles.
