It was a tough opener for the Mulberry Grove High School volleyball team on Aug. 27 as they fell in two sets on the road at Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

The Bobcats beat MG 25-13, 25-21.

I have seven returning seniors, three returning juniors and several other underclassmen on the roster this year; I have not had as many options before as I did this year,” said MG coach Denyse Blankenship. “This is a good problem to have but it proved to work against us tonight. We have made a few changes in our line-up from previous years and along with first game jitters we just couldn’t pull it out tonight.”

Callye Earnest had two kills and three digs while Madison Hans had two kills, five digs and a block.

Jenni Mezo had one kill, one block and five digs while Lola Johnson had four assists.

MG took an exciting three-set win over CHBC in the JV game to start the season.

The Aces won by a count of 25-9, 13-25, 29-27.

“The girls played hard and didn’t give up after falling 13-25 in the second set,” said Blankenship.

Several Aces had big nights on the floor.
