GHS girls tennis beats Vandalia

In their first dual meet of the season the Greenville High School Lady Comets tennis team traveled to Vandalia on Aug. 29 and won by a 6-3 score.

“We played well, especially for our first dual match!” said new GHS tennis coach Emily Maltbie. “It’s cool to see the team doing things that we’ve worked on at practice and our work paying off.”

At number one singles, Greenville’s Eden Kapp won 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Carlie Graumenz and at number two singles, Madi Hardin beat Delaynee Patterson 6-1, 6-0.

Erin Drannan playing at number five singles beat London Bowles of Vandalia 6-0, 6-1 while Natalie Goggin beat Ciara Feezel 6-3, 6-4.

The GHS doubles team of Kapp and Hardin beat Patterson and Kaylee Tompkins 8-5 with Erin Drannan and Anna Chute winning 8-1 over Bowles and Daria Murray.

Ella Jurgena fell 6-4, 6-1 to Tompkins in singles with Ava Lagermann dropping a close three-set match 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 to Bella Walk.

In the lone GHS doubles defeat, Lagermann and Taylor Ferris fell to Graumenz and Walk.

Upcoming Schedule

GHS was at the Effingham (St. Anthony) Invitational on Saturday and hosted Hillsboro yesterday however both results were unavailable at press time.

They play at Teutopolis on Thursday and in the Central Illinois Open in Springfield on Saturday.

On Tuesday they are at the Highland Doubles Tournament.
