Highland Speedway season races toward season points championships
By Mark Jurgena, Advocate Sports Staff
Once again this week at the World Famous Highland Speedway local winners were plentiful as the season quickly comes to a close.
There is only one weekend of points racing left in the season. That night will be on Sept. 7.
Owen Steinkoenig continued his string of top-two finishes winning for the second time in three weeks in the Modified Division with Trevor Isaak grabbing a second-place finish in the Factory Stocks after winning one week ago. Both drivers are from Highland.
Modifieds
Despite his recent success, Steinkoenig is in ninth place in the Modified season standings, well off the pace.
Atop the Modified season standings sits Zeb Moake of Freeburg who placed second on Saturday. Cody Zobrist of Highland is hot on his tail for the season points chase finishing just behind Moake on Saturday night.
T.J. Eilers of St. Jacob finished a disappointing 17th on Saturday.
Moake had 763 points for the season prior to Saturday night while Zobrist and Eilers were tied for second place with 740 points.
Among other local race entrants on Saturday, Cody Ventimiglia of Highland took eighth place while Troy Ernst of Highland was ninth.
