Jays softball continues winning ways

The Greenville Jr. High softball team is off to a 5-1 start on the fall season thanks to a pair of victories in three starts last week.
Lincoln
Greenville traveled to the state capital Saturday morning to face Springfield (Lincoln-Magnet) and returned with a 9-7 victory in nine innings.
Elyse Spratt collected an RBI in the ninth with a ground out to score Nova Roeder while Mya Neely singled home Gabi Haha and Sophia Edwards to tack on and make it 9-6 Jays.
Lincoln tallied a run in the ninth but it wasn’t enough as Neely slammed the door in the circle for the win.
Neely had three runs and those two big RBI while Roeder had three hits including a pair of doubles and a triple.
Savanna Reeves had two hits and two RBI. Claire Glisson also had two hits.
Paige Knebel had a hit as did Spratt and HaLeigh Wilfong.
Carlyle
On Aug. 16 the Jays beat Carlyle 16-0 in three innings at the GHS softball diamond.
Neely was the winning pitcher striking out seven of the nine hitters she faced.
She threw 36 pitches with 25 of them strikes during her perfect game no-hitter.
Roeder had two hits with three RBI while Glisson and Reeves had two hits and two RBI apiece.
Wilfong added a single with an RBI.
Neely, Knebel, Spratt, Hahs and Edwards all had an RBI.
