Lady Jays softball off to fast start
By Mark Jurgena, Advocate Sports Staff
The second incantation of Greenville Jr. High softball began much as the first season did.
After winning their first 15 games one season ago before falling in extra innings in the regional, this years edition of Jays softball went a perfect 3-0 last week to get themselves off to a flying start.
“Rolling into our second Bluejay season our sights are set high on player growth as well as competing at a high level,” said GJHS coch Jordyn Young. “After a couple of weeks of our yearly camp, tryouts and practice we were excited to jump in full force.”
Nokomis
Greenville began the season on Aug. 7 with a 17-0, four-inning win at Nokomis.
Nova Roeder had three hits and four RBI and scored four times on the day.
Mya Neely, Paige Knebel, Gabi Hahs and Sophia Edwards all had one hit for the Jays with Hahs smacking a double and Knebel hammering a triple.
Hahs added three RBI as did Edwards.
Neely tossed a no-hitter striking out seven and walking none. She did hit two batters.
“Traveling to Nokomis and obtaining a win motivated and built confidence in what we had been gearing up for,” said Young.
