Highland Speedway sees three drivers take first wins of the season Saturday night

It was another action-packed Saturday night and the World Famous Highland Speedway with hot action with cars competing in five separate classes on the track.

“We had three new winners for 2024 on Saturday night, we had two cars that flipped over which does happen once in a while and we had a packed pit area,” said Highland track spokesman Kurt Vonder Haar. “We had 98 cars that showed up and gave the fans plenty to cheer about.”

The three drivers taking their first win of the season at Highland included Rick Salter of Highland in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Modified Division, Gary Walker of Brighton in the Donnewald Distributing Company Factory Stock Division and 17-year-old Justin Adams of Shelbyville in the Warrior Division.

In the BEL-O Heating, Cooling & Plumbing Pro Modified Division Alex Cygan of St. Jacob won his second feature race of the season. He was able to beat 2023 points champion Cole Knebel of Pocahontas for the title.

Finally, in the Advantage Nursing Micro Sprint Division, E. Chad Elliott of Cottage Hills took home the victory in the 600cc winged sprint car class.

The victories are even more impressive considering the fact that the car count is up at Highland over the past two years.
