Answer #1– Ward and Blankenship went to Centenary College in Shreveport, La. to play basketball. They are now an NCAA Division III school but back in the day they were taking on all comers including the University of Houston.
In 1968 Houston was ranked number two in the nation and snapped the 47-game winning streak of UCLA who was ranked number one. Two weeks before that game Ward, fellow GHS grad Jon Blankenship and the rest of their Centenary teammates fell at Houston 118-81.
In 1967-68 Ward averaged 16.7 points per game while Blankenship averaged 12.5.
You get a bonus point if you said that the duo would play baseball as seniors after their basketball season was complete.
Answer #2- Well this wasn’t easy but Bill Edwards became a captain for the University of Illinois basketball team, Bill Reynolds played at Eastern Illinois. Both those players played for Windsor.
Finally, Steve Cunningham played basketball and baseball at Purdue University. Cunningham played for Bridgeport.
