By Mark Jurgena, Advocate Sports Staff
Greenville Comets summer sports action is in full swing as the calendar makes a turn toward July and the boys teams are continuing to progress.
Basketball
The Comets traveled to the Illinois College Shootout in Jacksonville on June 20-21. They returned to Bond County after winning all five games.
Baseball
The Senators returned to action near St. Louis at a tournament sponsored by Up & Coming last weekend.
They opened their tourney with a game against the St. Louis (Athletics-Midwest) at Lloyd Hopkins Field in Alton at Gordon Moore Park.
In that game, all the runs were scored in the first two innings as the Senators fell 5-4.
Greenville plated a pair of runs in the top of the first with Gus Olson leading off with a single and Cohen Alstat drawing a walk.
With runners at second and third and one out, Benjamin Hutchinson singled Olson home also advancing Alstat.
