Former major league baseball pitcher, Andy Benes, was the speaker at Friday's annual banquet of the All-South Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Benes told the audience that until a few years ago, "I was in a sorry state. It was all about me; I was a bad husband and a bad dad."
When his life was crashing in on him, Benes said he "surrendered to the God of the universe" and began to live his life "for God's eternal purposes."
Also at the banquet, it was announced that Luke Hohlt, a former Vandalia Community High School and Greenville College athlete and current baseball coach at VCHS, has been hired as an FCA area representative, beginning this fall.
