Food pantry to open Nov. 7

A new food pantry in Vandalia, operated by an offshoot organization of the Vandalia Ministerial Alliance, is scheduled to open Thursday, Nov. 7.
Named the 6:35 Pantry, the operation will be run by the Vandalia Association of Churches, an affiliation of pastors that was formed as a 501c3 non-profit organization. It will be located at 214 N. Elm St., just south of Randolph Street near the city garage.
The name is taken from the Bible verse, John 6:35, in which Jesus said: “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
To begin with, the pantry will be open Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Participating families may receive food once per month. Before they can be served, however, they must register at the pantry, either this Thursday or next Thursday, Oct. 31. At that time they will need some form of personal identification, such as a driver’s license or a state ID, as well as proof of their home address, and the number of adults and children in their household.
As the pantry is being set up, donations of non-perishable food items are being sought.
For more information, go to 6:35 Pantry on Facebook, or email [email protected].
