Vandalia native to be a charity runner in the Chicago Marathon in October

A Vandalia native will run her first-ever marathon in October as a charity runner.

Stacy White has nearly reached her goal of raising $750 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and earning a spot in the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 13.

The Foundation helps children who are diagnosed with cancer, and is named for Alexandria Scott, a 4-year-old who was diagnosed with cancer when she was 1.

Scott, along with her brothers, opened a lemonade stand to raise money for kids with cancer, and by the time Scott died when she was 8, the foundation had raised more than $1 million.

Today, there are more than  22,000 stands across the country

To help White reach her goal, donors can visit www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/111413, or send a check to her at 929 W. Washington St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471.

The top three donors will have their name or company name printed on the back of White’s shirt during the marathon’s finish.
