Mother’s Day breakfast held by UMW
By Panzi Blackwell
The Brownstown United Methodist Women held its annual Mother’s Day breakfast last Thursday in the fellowship hall of the church.
Carol Severns welcomed all present and shared announcements. She called on the Rev. Don Thomas to ask the blessing.
The tables were covered with lavender cloths, overlaid with white lace. Purple flowers in hobnail vases were the centerpieces on each table.
Following the meal, the speaker, Joy Lawson, was introduced. Lawson shared some of her unique experiences as a mother and mother-in-law that evoked both laughter and tears as she shared her story.
She and her husband decided to retire at the same time, so that they could travel. She had just retired from her teaching position and her husband died suddenly during his retirement party. This happened at a time when they had just experienced a very challenging situation concerning one of their sons.
The series of events was the beginning of drastic changes in her grown children’s lives, and in her life as well.
The Mother's Day breakfast was well-attended and Lawson's message of hope was well- received and appreciated.
