Field of Dreams committee sells naming rights to high school baseball field
The Vandalia Field of Dreams committee has sold the naming rights of the high school baseball field to a local insurance company.
Willms and Yakel Insurance Agency has agreed to accept naming rights for the next 10 years. The Field of Dreams committee will receive $4,000 annually, starting with this year.
A sign will be installed above the scoreboard. That will be purchased and installed by Willms and Yakel.
The committee said that naming rights are also available on the high school softball field, JV baseball field and other smaller entities around the facilities.
Later in the meeting, the committee approved a motion to purchase liability insurance through Willms and Yakel.
In other action at last Thursday’s meeting:
•The committee will be sponsoring a pitcher’s and catcher’s camp the week of July 20.
Camp will be run by Kyle Hawkins and several volunteers. Final details of the event are still pending and will be published in The Leader-Union once they are finalized.
The camp is expected to run each morning from Monday through Friday.
•The committee has received a second grant to make improvements to the hitting shed, and the second set of improvements will allow the building to be used all year.
Two grants of $4,000 each have been awarded to the committee. The first grant will be used to install a concrete floor in the building, and the second will be used to install a heating system.
All of that work, as well as the installation of engraved brick pavers, will take place after the Legion seasons.
•Because the Medicine Shoppe closed its doors before finishing off the payment of its plaque behind the backstop at the baseball field, the committee will be reselling the spot.
The Medicine Shoppe had paid $1,000 of the $2,500 cost before it closed earlier this year.
•The committee approved a motion to make a loan of payment of $7,000. That is $1,000 above the minimum amount.
At the committee’s April meeting, a motion to make a minimum payment was approved, but that payment had not been made.
