Harder speaks at UMW breakfast
By Panzi Blackwell
Ten members of the Brownstown United Methodist Women and five guests were present for the UMW Spring Breakfast on Thursday, May 17.
The fellowship room tables were decorated by Vernus Lytle and Zandra Sidwell. They featured white lace tablecloths, with pink and white underlay, and a display of Lytle's collection of teapots. Fresh bouquets of flowers adorned the serving tables.
Each place setting also held a small prayer rock, provided by another member. Small M & M packets with a message on each one were distributed by Flo Allen.
The breakfast of casseroles, fresh fruit, apple fritters, and coffee and tea was provided by Betty Williams and Jenna Townsend.
Following the breakfast, Carol Severns gave the welcome, opened the meeting and led the Purposes of the UMW. Awards were given to Marilyn Yakel, Carol Henna and Connie Henna for the reading program. Unit awards were given for the love unit and the rainbow unit. Also given was the spirit service award from the Cunningham Children’s Home.
A thank you was given by Severns for the help the group received during its rummage sale fundraiser. Mentioned were donations made to various mission projects. A reminder was given of the Evergreen Outreach date of June 25 and of items to be taken for gifts.
Flo Allen told of the Summer Lunches for Kids project, which will be in effect the first Wednesday in June and every Wednesday until August, with the exception of Fourth of July. The club decided to make a donation to the summer lunches program and to buy gifts for the E.O. visit.
Shirley Harder was then introduced as the guest speaker. She told UMW members about the Cunningham Children’s Home, which the UMW sponsors.
Present were: Vernus Lytle, Connie Green, Pam Gurtner, Betty Miller, Zandra Sidwell, Carol Henna, Carol Severns, Marilyn Yakel, Flo Allen and Betty Williams. Guests were: Phyllis Smith, Betty Feezel, Pat Hamilton, Shirley Harder and Panzi Blackwell.
