Evergreen Outreach
By Joyce Mueller
This time of year brings many special occasions – including graduations, weddings, reunions, ball games and other early summer activities.
This month, summer begins on June 20. Also, next week Flag Day will, as always, be observed on June 14, and there is to be a pause for the pledge at 6 p.m.
Music by Iris Price greeted guests as they arrived at Evergreen Outreach. Leader Beulah Brown opened the program by announcing the birthdays of Sharon LaDage, Mary Crawford, Debra Williams and Ruth Ann Scott.
A special “Happy Birthday” was sung to Ruth Reeter, who will be 99 in November.
Refreshments of cookies (donated by Sandra Cearlock), coffee and iced tea were served by faithful EO volunteers, Ruth Ann, Marcia, Charlene, Karen, Genelle, Lily and Louise.
Brown introduced the Rev. Joe Lawson, who presented scripture taken from Psalm 19:1. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
He then commented about the time he had six guests from Thailand, who had lived in cities their entire lives, and had not seen the clear night sky with the stars (and falling stars), or even flowers growing.
In awe, they lay out in the yard until after 2 a.m., marveling at the sight. It was stated, “God truly created a masterpiece in the sky.”
He closed by saying, “Thank you, God, for the beauty you created around us.”
The special entertainment segment (and highlight of the day) featured members of the FourGiven Quartet. We were privileged to hear Bob Culbertson, Dewayne Brown and Don Arndt.
Their selections included, “Rich in Faith,” “He Made a Change,” “Some Morning,” “I’m a Child of a King,” “Up on the Roof,” “Listen to the Falling Rain,” “Under the Boardwalk” and “Glory Road.”
Their music was outstanding, and we look forward to future performances.
Pinochle players Peggy Lippold and John Hunsley bested Richard Kruenegel and Rosamund Hobler three games to none.
Scheduled next week are: the Rev. Jim Fackler, leader and scripture; Donna Smith, pianist; Edith Elliott, writer; and Bill Beard, special entertainment.
A final note: How many things are brought to mind when you smell something pleasant that reminds you of a childhood moment or even a memory in your grandparent’s home?
CARPE DIEM (seize the day)!
