Evergreen Outreach

By Edith Elliott
It’s President’s Day! How thankful we should be that our founding fathers cared enough about this country to lay a firm foundation of faith, freedom and hope.
George Washington and Abraham Lincoln would have enjoyed EO on Monday. There were devotionals, refreshments,  and lots of singing and dancing (involving both volunteers and guests).
Jeanne Schlicht was our leader today. She welcomed everyone, recognizing the birthdays of Jennifer Kistler and Gwyneth Upchurch, and introducing our speaker, the Rev. Tom Farris from First Church of God.
He asked if we ever felt alone? Romans 11 tells how Elijah was alone. The prophets had been killed. The Lord told him that he had 7,000 people who were faithful. He was not alone.
In Deuteronomy 13, we are told to be strong and courageous. He will not forsake us.
At a discouraging point in his life, Farris said that he was pouting and praying. He was impressed to keep his thoughts anchored on God (quoting part of Acts 12).
Judy Varga, her granddaughter and her brother really kept things hopping with their music. Judy sang, “He’s Coming Soon,” “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “You Ain’t Woman Enough To Take My Man” and “Your Looking At Country.”
Her granddaughter, Gwyneth Upchurch from Kirkwood, Mo., sang two songs, “Working From 9-5” and “Redneck Woman.”
Randy Schukar sang, “The Ring of Fire,” “You’re Always On My Mind,” “My Achy, Breaky Heart” and “Know When to Hold Them.”
Many volunteers and guests joined in dancing, and all ended with the “Chicken Dance.”
Some of the guests on Monday were Rick Melton, Karen Redfern, and Gary and Paula Stine.
In pinochle, Wolf Schlicht and John Hunsley won  two games, while Ruth Scott and Shirley Locke won one.
This week's meeting was held in the Long Term Care’s dining room. Next week's meeting will be back in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church.
Come out to hear the special twosome of “SoftFire,” David and Patricia Pence.
