Field of Dreams discusses maintenance
Field maintenance was the primary topic of discussion at Tuesday night's Field of Dreams meeting.
No specific deadlines or motions were made involving maintenance, but the committee discussed a number of areas to be improved.
At the high school baseball diamond, committee members have found that there is grass growing on the outer edge of the infield and that there are too many weeds growing in the outfield warning track. In addition, weeds are growing on the side tracks down the right- and left-field lines.
To combat that, the committee is hoping to till the edge of the infield and the outfield warning track and spray both areas with a weed killer. The side tracks will likely just be sprayed.
Other work to be done at the high school diamond includes moving the scoreboard to a more fan-friendly location just to the right of center field. The committee hopes to have that project completed within the next two months.
In other action:
•Engraved brick pavers are still being sold, but not for much longer.
The layout design for the pavers was not pinned down on Tuesday, but the most popular idea among members was to arrange them around a new flag pole between the high school fields. More details are expected at the next meeting.
To purchase a paver, contact Steve Ledbetter at [email protected] or 267-4559.
A 4-inchX8-inch paver, which can have up to three lines of text, can be purchased for $40, and an 8-inchX8-inch paver, which can have up to seven lines of text, can be purchased for $80.
•The committee set the date of the next public meeting for Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia.
